2004 – A New Experience

After gaining some experience coaching the boys’ team, Coach Castillo looked to build upon that in his 1st season with the girls’ team.  After a highly publicized season with the boys, getting people to try out was not a problem as over 70 girls signed up to try-out for the team.  However, almost every one of them was brand new to tennis; something that would make it difficult to compete against those teams with various experienced players.

The team struggled to get past the elite teams in the league, and even lost both contests to Gardena.  However, during an inspired match versus San Pedro, the Pilots came away with an upset victory.  Although San Pedro would avenge that loss in their second match, it was still a great win.  Although the Pilots struggled throughout the season to be competitive with most of the schools, the game scores improved dramatically throughout the season.
