LADY PILOTS MAKE HISTORY, CONTINUE THEIR RUN AT THE CHAMPIONSHIP!
Congratulations to #1 Doubles,
Nancy Melgoza & Cinthya Monroy, of the Girls Tennis Team for their history-making victory in the L.A. C.I.F. City Section
Individual Doubles Championships, yesterday at the Balboa Tennis Center in Encino. Melgoza & Monroy
played a close match versus a tough team from Taft, but still won in straight sets 7-5, 7-5. These Lady
Pilots now find themselves in the “Sweet Sixteen” out of close to 200 doubles teams in the city, the furthest
that a Lady Pilots Doubles team has advanced, perhaps in the entire history of Banning High School.
Meanwhile, #2 Doubles,
Adriana Garcia & Veronica Trujillo, played a top-16 ranked team from Granada Hills. After quickly falling
behind, losing the 1st set & trailing 4-0 in the 2nd, they mounted a comeback, winning 3 of the
next 4 games, before finally succumbing 6-3 in the final set. We are very proud of their effort and achievement
as well.
Good luck to Nancy
& Cinthya as they go back today, playing for a spot in the quarterfinals!
