Re-cap of 9/24 Match vs. Narbonne

Congratulations to the Girls Tennis Team for a dramatic 4-3 victory over Narbonne on Monday.  Banning began the match by jumping out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles matches.  Things continued to look easy, as the Pilots had a 7-5 lead in the first singles match on court.  The Gauchos, however, would not go down easy, as their two of their singles players mounted great comebacks to take their matches in two separate tie-breakers.

After the Pilots dropped a third singles match, and the total score tied at 3-3-, all the pressure fell on the #1 Singles player Nancy Melgoza who trailed her opponent 4-5. After taking the lead at 7-5, 30-love her opponent mounted a final push to force the 3^rd tie-breaker of the day. Melgoza finally won the tie-breaker (7-5) after many dramatic twists and turns, giving the Pilots their 3^rd win in a row over Narbonne.  This was definitely one of the most exciting matches in a long time, and great sports-woman-ship was shown by both teams after the match, as they expressed deep respect for one another.

Special recognition goes out to #1 Doubles Melissa Hernandez & Diana Alvarado, #2 Doubles Norma Santamaria & Kathy Ngo, as well as #3 Doubles Cristina Alvarado & Jasmin Jimenez who all took their sets with relative ease.  Especially significant was the fact that both Diana & Cristina Alvarado were playing their first match in their new roles as full-time starters, while rookies Kathy Ngo & Jasmin Jimenez were playing their first matches ever.  They all performed exceptionally well!

Junior Varsity/Exhibition

In Exhibition action, Sandra (not Sandy) Medina & Victoria Martinez played extremely well & also took their match 6-3, in what was also their first match ever.

Way to go Pilots!  Incredible show of heart & character! J
